Plein-Air Landscape Workshop for Every Level
Have you ever wondered how artists paint a wooded landscape when there is so much visual chaos? How do you simplify what you see, while capturing the feel of the place?

This workshop will provide ideas on how to manage what you see by organizing the elements according to light and shade, form and composition. The 4.5 hour workshop with Claudia Michael will start at 10 am with a 45 minute introduction on viewing and painting the landscape. Images will be broken down to show how light and shade along with form can help simplify a complex scene into basic shapes and tones.

Following the instruction everyone will begin a nature walk on Andres’ grounds looking for inspiration. Sketches and taking digital photos of the scene you are sketching will be the reference materials used for the paintings. The more sketches the more material to select from for the studio paintings in the afternoon.
Lunch is on your own and may be enjoyed after the sketching session. The afternoon will begin with a demonstration on how to take a pencil sketch and photos to create a watercolor and ink painting.

Workshop registration includes a watercolor and ink supply kit and all required materials are included in the kit. Please bring your own digital camera or smartphone for reference photos, plenty of drinking water, and dress appropriately for the weather. In the event of rain, a makeup date will be announced.
