Linocut Print Workshops

- Description
Beginner class: Friday, Sept 4. Intermediate Class: Sunday, Sept 13.
Both classes 7-9pm
The beginner-friendly class will introduce you to the fundamentals of linocutting and block printing using bold, classic black ink. You'll learn how to safely handle carving tools, transfer a design onto linoleum, carve your image step by step, and ink and press your block to pull your own hand-printed piece. By the end of class, you'll walk away with your own carved block and a set of original prints.
The intermediate class builds on basic carving skills and dives into designing repeating patterns and working with multiple colors. You'll explore how to plan a pattern block, and experiment with layering inks to create depth and visual rhythm in your prints. You'll leave with new techniques to expand your printmaking practice.
This workshop will be led by Xena Lopriore, an artist who works with linocut prints and other media. You may have seen the cards she made of two of the AIA sculptures, The Phoenix and She Lifted Her Heart and Floated Away, in the Welcome Center. She is also a Volunteer in the Welcome Center and the Art Gallery at the Andres Institute of Art.
The class is open to participants 12 years of age (with an adult) through adult.
