My steel figurative sculpture is strongly influenced by my native New York City environment. I translate the human form into metal lines, grids and compartments. This random vocabulary defines the entity beneath the façade. The exposed construction of each piece also reveals my process. Much like architecture under construction, my sculptures are anonymous monuments in states of transition.

Monument II commemorates the past, signifies the transience of the present, and stands for the future as an open structure. These themes are universal but also specific to the sculpture’s installation at the quarry, where an industry crumbled and made way for art on Big Bear.
