Iron Melt

- Description
Join our biggest Fundraiser of the Year!
This item is the member-price Iron Melt. For non-member Iron Melt purchase use this link: Iron Melt - Non-Member - Andres Institute of Art.
Pricing is $35 for members and $45 for non-members. Get an annual membership HERE. You may purchase membership at the link after ordering your iron melt molds. Purchase of annual membership will be confirmed for member-pricing.
The mold(s) and carving tool(s) must be picked up at the AIA Welcome Center due to the weight. See pick up, and drop off, dates below.
Your purchase buys a mold to carve and a carving tool. Carve the mold at home and return it to the AIA Welcome Center on one of the specified days. The molten iron pour will be Saturday, October 21st. The pour is estimated for noon; however, molten iron can be finicky. Please be patient. Once poured, they need to be cooled, cleaned and rough edges removed. This is a good time to explore the trails!
Join us at the Studio on the hill to see the molds poured with molten iron. There will be shuttle service between the Welcome Center to the Studio. After it is cooled and made safe (cleaned and no sharp edges) you will take home an iron cast of the mold you carved. Molds cannot be returned as most break during the release process.
If you are not able to be present at the iron pour you make pick up your iron cast during Welcome Center Open Hours the week after the Iron Melt.
Molds can be picked up at the Welcome Center from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on Thursdays and Saturdays: September 28th & 30th, October 5th, 7th, 12th, 14th and 19th. Additionally, they will be available during the Closing Ceremony festivities, Sunday, October 8. You may also pick up or drop off during Welcome Center hours, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11am - 4pm - please check with the Welcome Desk volunteer.
Carved molds can be dropped off these days and times as well. Carved molds may also be dropped off the day of the iron melt until 10am, at the Welcome Center. They will be coated with graphite to allow the mold to release the cast iron.
Anyone who wishes to carve their mold the day of the iron melt should arrive at the studio (leave time to walk up there) by 10:30 am. Come with an idea in mind so you can get right to carving - it takes some doing!
Carving instructions will be provided with purchase.
